JOHOR BAHRU, 28 Dec – Uninet Technology, a technology start-up owned by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) students, has launched PrinTEX Student Lounge N28 which is now officially operating at the Student Lounge, Faculty of Computing, UTM Johor Bahru.
The opening ceremony, officiated by the Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir, aimed to introduce the student company’s innovative product, PrinTEX-An Easier Way To Print! to all UTM staff.
PrinTEX is an innovative product based on the Internet of Things (IoT) that is connected with the PrinTEX mobile application for automatic and on-demand document printing services.
This innovative product was developed by a group of young people consisting of students from the Faculty of Computing (FC) and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE) under a start-up company called Uninet Technology. This innovative product has opened up a space for UTM citizens to obtain 24-hour and on-the-go printing services. The PrinTEX mobile application is also equipped with various interesting functions such as users can find out the location of a PrinTEX nearby, upload documents and make online payments through the PrinTEX application.
Uninet Technology is comprised of Low Lie Xin, who is the main founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Fikri Akmal Aizuddin Bahrim, as Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Uninet Technology, Iqmal Aizat Mohd Zamri, and also Haziq Farhan Marajuddin.
According to Fikri Akmal, PrinTEX was initially a marketplace that provided a platform for printing service providers to advertise their services. As a result of the constraints of the problem and feedback from users, PrinTEX has shifted to an on-demand printing service powered by Cloud Computing technology.
“This innovative idea and concept has received a very encouraging response from users and today more than 100 people have downloaded the PrinTEX mobile application,” said the 3rd year Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) student.
UTM XCITE Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rashid said PrinTEX will receive a funding injection of RM20,000 from the Malaysian Technology Development Cooperation (MTDC) to expand this innovative product throughout UTM in 2024.
“I commend PrinTEX’s spirit and courage in promoting their innovative product. It is not an easy thing to develop a ‘tech startup’ with the various challenges they have to face. We (UTM XCITE) will always help and provide a path for them (PrinTEX) to move forward,” he added.
Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir, Dean of the Faculty of Computing emphasized that the Faculty of Computing will always welcome and provide full support to students to be active in innovating and thinking critically to produce innovative products that provide added value to the community. He prayed that PrinTEX could take a step further and become ‘the next RunCloud’ that would bring glory to the name of UTM.
Also present were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Radziah Mohamad (Acting Deputy Dean of Academics & Student Affairs), Ts. Dr. Farhan Mohamad (Director of the Department of Emergent Computing), Arif Tukiman (Founder & CEO of RunCloud) and Dr. Mohd Adib Sarijani (Senior Lecturer at FKE & Founder of Innates PLT).
