OUR BACKGROUND
UTMXCITE (UTM x Centre for Innovation, Technology & Entrepreneurship) is a strategic initiative of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) that serves as a key driver of the entrepreneurship, innovation and technology ecosystem within the university community, as well as among industry partners and the wider community.
UTMXCITE was established to support UTM’s aspiration to become an innovation-oriented university, with strong emphasis on technology transfer and high-impact entrepreneurship, in line with current industry needs and the national economic development agenda.
2013
UTMXCITE was initially established as the UTM Technology Entrepreneurship Centre (UTMTEC), with the objective of creating a dedicated entity to drive technology-based entrepreneurial learning among the UTM community.
October 2017
The UTMTEC structure was merged with the Centre for Student Innovation (CSI) to form the UTM Centre for Student Innovation & Technology Entrepreneurship (UTMXCITE). This merger aimed to consolidate innovation and entrepreneurship activities under a single, integrated entity, aligned with the university’s strategic direction to nurture innovative and entrepreneurial mindsets among students and staff.
Since the merger, UTMXCITE has continued to grow as a central hub managing a wide range of programmes and initiatives to empower students and the community in the fields of innovation and applied technology.
